You can check your Facebook account from anywhere you have an internet connection; this includes laptops of course, but also tablet computers like Apple's iPad. In fact, while you can use the built-in Safari browser, there's an even better way to login to Facebook from your iPad: using the "Friendly" app, which comes as either a free, ad-sponsored version, or a paid version (only $0.99 in the App Store - as far as we can tell, the only difference is a small ad displayed at the bottom of the screen in the free version). In this tutorial, we assume that you have already installed either version of the Friendly app on your iPad. (If you need help downloading and installing apps, please see our iPad Tutorial for beginners.)
By default, the Friendly app is "blank" - no user preconfigured of course, so you'll first need to create a Facebook account. Then, locate the Friendly icon on your iPad Home screen, and tap on it. A mostly blank screen will open, including a "New Account" button: for clarification, this will not create a new account, it will allow you to add your Facebook account to the app - tap on that button.
As soon as you do, Friendly will open a "Facebook Login" dialog; enter your phone number or email address inside the first field, and your current account password inside the second field. Then, tap on the Login button, or hit the "Go" key on the on-screen keyboard. Within a few seconds, you will either receive an "Incorrect email/password combination" error message, or Friendly will show a "Request for Permission" message: this is a security measure designed by Facebook to prevent apps from accessing your account information without your knowledge or explicit permission: tap on the "Allow" button.
If you want to login to another Facebook account as the one currently logged in, you don't need to sign out: just use the app's "Switch Account" feature, covered in our "Sign in to another Facebook account with Friendly for iPad" tutorial. This allows you to easily change from one profile to another:
Once you tap on the Home button on your iPad to return to your Home screen (or double-tap to switch to another app), Friendly remains signed in by default - read our Facebook Logout from iPad tutorial for your options. This means that, unless you password protect your iPad, anyone with physical access to it will be able to load your Facebook account, essentially bypassing the login process altogether.
Tip: as often, convenience and security are opposites. If you have concerned related to access to your iPad, make sure to manually sign out every time. To prevent others from accessing to your Facebook account on iPad, tap the "Friendly" menu (top left of screen), turn on "PIN Code" at the bottom, and type a 4-digit code (different from your iPad's pin, if you added one).
